Committed to riding around sixty kilometres we set off early. We regularly do ninety k on our road bikes. How hard can it be? But our progress is thwarted by a diversion around the mining and rehabilitation area leading us along a very uninspiring section. At the pinnacle of our exasperation, we come across a map which pin points our location with the typical “You are here”. We chuckle at the mind reading adventurers before us who have defaced the sign in scrawling graffiti hand – “We are where?”
Flying down hill I momentarily forget the weight of my panniers, hit a corner too hard and slide out. One foot still wedged in its cleat, leg pitted with pea gravel I look up bemused at my companion who has sprung off his bike and is in the process of capturing me on camera in my ungainly state. Brow furrowed I fleetingly contemplate a terse remark but decide against it. It’s been a long day.
Finally, in the late afternoon, we arrive at Logue Brook Dam. We set up camp under the trees - wind, flies, broken glass and rubbish are my memories of this relatively uninspiring place. The photos tell a different story.
Where is your bicylce helmet? For your own safety and protection, it should be on your head. Helmets are compulsary when riding a bike in Australia.
ReplyDeleteOh I know how shocking am I that I took it off for most of the photos. In many of them you can see it sat on the back of my bike. I did wear it 90% of the time.
